Update on jockey Alyssa Selman
Alyssa Selman was riding in the 6th race at Assiniboia Downs on Saturday, June 27 when her horse stumbled and she was thrown to the racing surface. She suffered a serious back injury that required surgery the following day. The indication from her family is that the surgery was deemed successful. However, the road to recovery will be lengthy. The finality of her back injury cannot be stated at this time. Alyssa is currently in stable condition at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
The racing community will be holding a fundraising social for Alyssa and her family on Sunday, July 19 at Assiniboia Downs, main floor, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $15 and are available at Guest Services, ASD General Office, VLT cage or the Horsemen’s Bookkeeper. Trust funds have been setup up at the TD Canada Trust, Assiniboine Credit Union and Access Credit Union. Donations can be made to the "Alyssa Selman Trust Fund" at any branch. Credit card donations can be made through Go Fund Me click here.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Alyssa and her family at this challenging time. We will do our best to provide updates as they become available.
