Penn National Friday, March 12 Race 9 #5 King Snoop Morning line 7-2. Post time: 8:47 p.m.
This horse, racing in my specialty race, a maiden claimer, has my favourite angle: horse showed good pace last time, now racing at $5,000 rather than $7,500. Hopefully we'll get a bit of a price because he was beaten last time by another horse in the race, #11 Monsignor Bonner. But King Snoop did all the early work in that race, dueling with another horse, while this horse raced slightly off the pace. My prediction is that my horse will be gone early and #11 will play catch-up. Superfecta: Put #11 and #12, Early Expectations, underneath my choice in all three positions with "all" or with other horses you think have a bit of a chance.
LAST WEEK: Happy to report that my choice, Kailey's Boy at Delta, won but was well short of his morning line odds of 8-1. He actually went off at 2-1 and paid $6. But the value was in the superfecta which I suggested you play. The superfecta paid $275 and, as you may recall, my suggestion was to play my horse first, another horse second, and wheel a third horse with ALL horses in the third and fourth position. It would have cost you $14 for a $1 wheel and you would have picked up $137.
RECORD: Single plays 7-1-1-1. Biggest exotic payout: $275.
WEEKEND FUN: Two words: Rachel and Zenyatta. Thankfully, their owners are keeping those super females racing--and it should be a real treat to see each of them Saturday at 5:15 p.m. and 5:36 p.m. in their 2010 debuts in separate races as they prepare to meet each other at Oaklawn on Friday, April 9, in the $5 million Apple Blossom Invitational. The other excitement Saturday, of course, surrounds several Derby prep races, the biggest of which is the $300,000 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn. Enjoy! This should be one remarkably memorable weekend!
