Most exciting Derby finish since 2005

Hammers Bullet, Big Blue Caboose and Gotatigerbythetail pulled away from the other six horses to provide the most exciting Derby finish since Prime Time T.V.'s last-to-first finish in 2005.  At bottom trainer Jared Brown, who assisted the horse's official trainer Clay Brinson who had been away at Canterbury Downs, happily hoses down Hammers Bullet just after his thrilling victory.

Stars of the day

Jockey Mark Anderson's silks (at right) said it all:  he was a star and so was trainer Jared Brown with him. And so were the cake-cutters at the post-Derby celebration in the Terrace Dining Room afterward (from left): Terry Hamilton (owner of Hammers Bullet), trainer Clay Brinson, Terry's wife, Toby, jockey Anderson and trainer Brown.  Very memorable moments here!

How now, brown calf?

Away from the madding crowd, a boy shares a tender moment with Evie, a calf named for the fact she was born on New Year's Eve.  That was at the petting farm.  And, in the Winners' Circle, the best hat designers show off their creations and receive $100 each (from left):  Angela Dyck (most glamorous), Drew Hardie (most outrageous) and  Arlene Demarni (best racing theme).
