After a holiday weekend of "extremes" . . .

.....   let's just call tomorrow "unwind Wednesday."  In other words, tomorrow night--the second-last Wednesday of live racing--is just a good time to kick back and enjoy a quieter night of racing and a basket of ribs and wings.

POOLS ARE GROWING:  You also have a couple nice pools to pursue:
(1)  The Triple Q Challenge has fattened to $550 and it's yours, of course, if you predict the top two finishers in races 3 to 5.  If you're feeling lazy, here are my predictions for race 3 (#2 and #4), race 4 (#5 and #9) and, in race 5,  #7 will finish in the top two. Now all you have to do is pick the other horse in race 5.  You're welcome.  (If I'm wrong, you forgot where you got these.)
(2)  The pick-6 carryover is $1,254 so that pool is worth taking a stab at, too.

Goldie attracts a crowd on Extreme Day

Hope you had a great time on the first-ever Extreme Day Monday and watched history being made Saturday when that courageous 3-year-old filly, Rachel Alexandra, dug in to become the first female horse ever to win the Woodward Stakes at Saratoga in its 56-year history.

A quick note on Extreme Day.  A couple other extreme races had been scheduled (the gray race and the shortest race) but a dwindling horse population led to insufficient entries on Saturday to make those races happen. But the head of the horsemen, Jeff Goy, a horseowner himself, said there will be a renewed commitment next year to make those races go--especially if Extreme Day is held earlier in the race season, as likely will be the case.  See?  You already have reason to look forward to 2010!

INSIDER ADVANCE:  Lots on the go for Thursday's Insider.  Does Assiniboia Downs have the gentlest whips?  The candyman hits big--really big!  And look who's back--it's the player with nine lives!

Tomorrow.  -- Ivan
