Race of the Week
Best finish by a riderless horse. (From May 9, 2008)
The ghost horse wins it!
Talk about instinct, sometimes a horse knows exactly what they are supposed to do. Case in point would be Topaz Legacy in the eighth race Friday night. Topaz Legacy, trained by Clay Brinson, jumped erratically out of the starting gate losing his rider Alan Cuthbertson in the first few yards of the race, but that didn’t stop him from running the perfect race.
Sitting in the back of the early, Topaz Legacy began to make his move at the beginning of the turn and found another gear at the top of the stretch. Coming up between horses, Topaz Legacy timed it perfectly to catch the leader The Word Is Out who had lead throughout the race.
Unfortunately, to be the official winner, Alan Cuthbertson would have had to been riding him, but it provided everyone something to talk about. Two-time leading rider, Alan Cuthbertson was uninjured in the accident and was back in the saddle Sunday afternoon.
