Visions of Golden Boy for EI Hondo
With the Golden Boy Stakes only weeks away for 3-year-olds, any outstanding performance by an individual can provide optimism. EI Hondo, trained by Aaron Sayler, surprised everyone in a maiden special weight race, packed full of potential stars.
Battling for the lead down the back, the EI Corridor gelding simply continued to impress throughout the race. When the early leaders Swag and Greeley’s Gain gave up Simply Illusive took over.
Simply Illusive sat in behind the trio down the back and went four wide with a commanding move around the turn. The two battled throughout the stretch creating a thrilling finish with EI Hondo by a nose.
The Golden Boy Stakes the first major step to the Manitoba Lotteries Derby for local horses will run on Saturday, May 31.
