Queen Tina gets her jewels in R. C. Anderson
After competing against some of the best 3-year-old fillies on the grounds, Queen Tina, trained by Harry Kube, went wire to wire against the best Manitoba-breds.
Wrestling for the lead down the lane the first time, Queen Tina was able to get the lead for herself halfway down the backstretch from Simple Intentions. After that is was all over as rider David Lopes dominated the field winning by four lengths.
“At the top of the stretch she was all horse,” said Lopez, “I thought they would be closing and she just drew off.”
Queen Tina came into the R. C. Anderson off an impressive win against open company maidens at the end of June. It was the Chantilly Stakes however where owners Starfield Stable knew they had a runner. Queen Tina finished a respectable third against Miss Missile.
Bella Mariella, last year’s top 2-year-old, sat fourth down the backstretch and was able to move up to second around the turn, but would not be able to catch “the Queen.” Bella Mariella is trained by Marty Drexler
Cinnamon Force, trained by Emile Corbel, got comfortable in the back of the pack early and waited to make a four wide move in the middle of the turn to finish third.
