LADY COUNTDOWN MAKES IT A DOUBLE FOR TRAINER CHARLES SMITH IN TAKING DEBUTANTE
Trainer Charles Smith was all smiles in the winners circle after his promising young filly Lady Countdown made it a "double" for his barn on the afternoon with a win in the $ 50,000 Debutane Stakes. With a score earlier in the day in the Assiniboia Oaks with his impressive three year old filly, Miss Missile, the U.S. based trainer won a total of $60,000 in purse money on the day.
"She's an awfully nice filly...really fast," said Smith. "She's more mature than most. At two years old, she is almost like a three year old."
Veteran jockey Mark Anderson guided the Lousiana bred from gate to wire, "I had a lot left...she's a nice filly."
Lady Countdown returned $ 3.90 for a $ 2.00 win wager and covered the 5 1/2 furlong distance of the race in 106.1
